Beach House

Bright white woodwork contrasts with dark-stained, wide-plank oak floors in the entryway and throughout.   Knowing sand and wet suits would be tracked in, the owner specified  the floor’s inherent rustic quality.

Below -  A half-wall was added between a row of columns to serve as a barrier for the hall and to eliminate looking at the back of the sofa.

HOW AND WHY TO HIRE THE RIGHT DESIGNER FOR YOUR HOME.

Many people design their homes thinking only they can create “the look” for their space. But others striving to reach the next level – a polished, put-together look – will turn to an interior designer to save themselves from what can be frustrating hours and costly mistakes.  A designer brings a taste level and access to furniture, art, accessories and fabrics that you may not have.  People often turn to a designer because a project, whether a room or a house, is more than they can handle.   I manage the total scheme, lighting, layout, color and fabric selections, working closely with the client.  I have the  professional ability to interpret a variety of different tastes and am able to coordinate the project and get the job installed.

One of the most important times to work with a designer is when you are at the pre-construction phase of building a new home, preferably before the plans go out to bid.  Architects and builders work with CAD (computer assisted drawings), but a designer works with how you live.  Important details such as electrical outlet placement, furniture arrangement with traffic patterns and other details should be determined in this early phase.

Most people start with a main room such as a living room, family room or master bedroom to get comfortable with the designer.  Hopefully this information can help you in making smart decisions about the design of your most important asset, your  home!

When the weather is warm and lovely, it's easy to loose sight of just how gloomy a winter day can be. But, for those who crave sunshine all year long, summer can be an everyday visitor even on the coldest winter days. The key to an endless summer lies in choosing patterns and colors that evoke the outdoors, but retain the sophistication of indoor living.
